Preamble:
-" We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defense , promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the Unites States of America."
Paraphrase:
- The people of the United States of America need to do/have these things in order to have a perfect union: have justice (fair/equal), tranquility, protection, promote welfare, and follow the constitution of the United States of America.
What isn't listed? what is a lie or a distortion or spin? Think it through and write down a few ideas, a few skeptical questions.
- as you can see the preamble is all about what one needs to have the "perfect union", well i believe that what they list isn't exactly all that you need. i say this because i think that in order to have a perfect country you need peace , and when you have peace , it doesn't help to have an army . The preamble mentions that you need an army to have protection , but armies only cause war , which causes the opposite of peace. another thing about the constitution i believe isn't what will create a perfect union is the part that mentions justice. i think that if every single person is equal and the same that there wont be competition, everything would be the same, there wouldn't be no "better" because people wouldn't try and get better or create better supplies, i just believe that in order to have a functioning country you have to have competition (not too much though, because then it can get messy). so basically if i were to add a part to the preamble it would defiantly be peace and love, NOT war and hate!
ARTICLES 1-3 of the constitution :
- There are three different branches of the government in order to keep it organized. these three branches are the, executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch.
- The exeutive branch(article 2) is all controlled by the president. the president carries out the laws and recommends new ones. the presidents powers include directing the government, commending the Armed Forces, and dealing with international powers , he/she also is acting as chief law enforcement officer and his weapon is to veto laws!
- the legislative branch(article 2) is controlled by the Congress , which is the house of representative and the senate. What they do is make laws! the powers of the congress is to pass laws, originate spending bills, impeaching officials, declare war, and approve treaties.
-the judicial branch (article 3) is controlled by the supreme court. the powers they withhold are interpreting the constitution, looking over laws, and deciding cases involving states rights.
Questions about the Constitution:
1) what can the congress not do?
2) Who wrote the draft of the constitution?
3) do any of the articals have to do with economics? if so are we going to connect it to our class?
4) what does impeaching officals mean?
5) ARe they still adding on to the constitution?
6) do you believe that one should be born in the USA to become president?why?
