1.Given the distinction between a constitutional amendment and a law - if you had the influence how would you amend the constitution?
- If i had the right to change the constitution i don't think i would change anything about it because when you think about it , if there was ANY right you would want to give people or ANY law you could make up to better the country , what would it be? its a pretty hard question because our government has accomplished a lot , and is standing at a good point right now. When you think of America you think that we are falling apart and that we need to do something about , change something, but when i try and think of that one thing to change America, i cant. This relates to in class when Andy asked the students "What's one thing you would change or create to the constitution?" and from what i remember , everyone didn't have an answer. its so hard to create something so serious. Now i had a blurred idea of a law i would like to create , but i don't know how to put it together. It would be something about the poor, making "poor" not exist, making us equal . i just don't know how exactly that could happen , seems impossible :(
something really interesting that actually just happened was that I'm talking to my friend online and i asked her "What would you add to the constitution " and it took her a long time for her to respond and i asked her why is that? and she said well we have everything we need BUT the one think i would change would have to be about homeless people. Which is funny because that's exactly what i said ! This shows that the only problem [us teenagers] think there is left is , homeless people/poor people.
4.What is the general tendency of the Constitution and Amendments in your view - general and steady expansion of human freedom and decency? Reverses and contradictions in no particular direction? Ever increasing betrayal of democratic ideals by corrupt officials? A record of an eternal battle between the evil and good sides of humanity? Explain your fundamental perspective regarding the Constitution and provide a few arguments (including some citations of the Constitution itself) that support your position.
-i would say that the general tendency of the constitution is the fact that through out it all they are trying to make America fair. I feel like the constitution is their last attempt to try and make everyone equal and fair and by doing this they made up a bunch of "law" like articles to it. i would say the biggest example of this would be the Amendments. for example the 13Th amendment stops slavery , the 15Th amendment allowing all colors to vote, and the 19Th amendment allowing woman to vote . these three amendments show that the creators of the constitution where trying to patch up the bad unequal parts about our government and make up these amendments to create peace and equality.
Another conclusion i can make about the constitution is that it does a good job hiding the bad parts of it because until today in class i thought it was all good but then i learned some bad aspects to it, the constitution sure does a good job hiding all the bad parts. For example people tend to speak in our name when its not true . Like when the constitution starts off with "We the People" , it doesn't make sense because WE are the people but are we the people that wrote the constitution and contributed to it? nope! Its also like when we say that WE elected Obama as president, did we underage people vote? nope! its a way of tricking people !
5. How does the Constitution, as amended, create/constrain/shape the American Way of Life?
- i believe that the constitution constructed the way we live overall and that without it America would be like a jungle. Everything would be out of order and without any discipline or structure. the Constitution in one way constructed the AWOL in the way that Americans think of everyone as ONE no matter what color or sex you are, we are all equal . the constitution allowed their to be different parts of the government allowing it to stay organized over the three branches. i think its better that way rather then one ruler ruling all , this way we get more then one opinion before somethings "official". There is one thing though, when i think about the American way of life i think of opportunity , and when you think about it , the constitution is the structure that gave us this opportunity to rise , even though it is failing at the moment , we must be doing something right if the other countries and continents are failing/ were failing way before us?
